CARDEY directs projects on the ground in Togo, and approximately 95% of funds received
are allocated directly to project implementation, including clean water, education, and
community development initiatives.

The organization addresses urgent needs that affect daily life, beginning with reliable access to clean drinking water. In many rural areas, families must spend hours each day collecting water that may still be unsafe to drink. CARDEY works with village leaders to drill and restore wells and develop water systems that provide dependable sources of safe water for villages, schools, and orphanages.
Once reliable water is available, communities are better able to pursue broader development opportunities. Access to water can support small-scale agriculture and irrigation that strengthen food security and create opportunities for local income. At the same time, CARDEY works with village chiefs and school leaders to develop appropriate school buildings and educational environments designed for the region’s challenging climate conditions.Through practical projects and collaboration with local leadership, CARDEY seeks to help rural communities build healthier, more resilient, and more sustainable futures.

Matekpo, Togo
Bringing clean drinking water to the village with installation of a solar powered well system
​Team Cardey recently visited the remote village of Matekpo in Togo, West Africa to see first hand the lack of clean water that the community has been struggling with. Women and children make a long walk everyday to either a water hole or the river to scoop dirty water into their basins and jugs to carry back to the village.
Cardey accessed the need in a trip through the bush to the village to meet the community and chieftains, we exchanged greetings and rituals and committed to the clean water project by passing around a cassava wood staff that everyone touched and blessed.

Upon return to the US we discovered on video viewing of the site an abandoned derelict well, which we were able to salvage. We were able to get a qualified contractor to work at the village and remove the old non-functioning pump and fit the well casing with a new pump designed for solar applications. We had a structure fabricated and installed 4 solar panels and a controller, to make to system self-contained. There was tremendous joy as the villagers open the tap and had gravity feed clean water for the first time in over five years.
